Hi! I just wanted to introduce myself. I've been checking out the forum for a while now, but just never joined. A bit about me: When I was growing up, I was in 4H - the rabbit and horse clubs - but I really, really wanted chickens, specifically Polish and Silkies. My mom said, "When you grow up and have your own house, you can have as many chickens as you want." So I did. My chicken-keeping began last summer, when my fiance, John, bought 6 young ones at the flea market, intending to resell them at a local livestock auction that afternoon. The problem was, he had the wrong date for the auction, and by the next weekend, they all had names and so they stayed. Of course, they all wound up being roosters, but they all get along and they live together with no hens.
Then more arrived - the Polish and Silkies I always wanted. We just had 3 Silkies hatch 2 weeks ago, and wow, are they cute! Then on Saturday, John called me up at work and said, "Don't be mad, but I just bought 7 baby chicks at the auction. I didn't want them to be eaten." Keep in mind that this man is a lifelong hunter and I'm a vegetarian, but he really has a soft spot for poultry. I believe they are Wyandottes, and I really hope they are all hens as we have too many roosters already and I'm worried about noise.
Anyway, sorry for rambling! I really enjoy the forum and I'd love to hear from other local chicken fanatics! Thanks for reading.
