Fred CTX
In the Brooder
My name is Fred. My wife and 16 year old son are in the process of creating our own farmstead in the back corner of some family land.
We both grew up living in the country so we have some experience with animals and lite farm life. Neither of us have ever been full time farmers.
I'm supposed to be building us a small family home so we can move onto the property. Everything was going good until it started raining every week a few months ago. It's hard to build a house when I can only work on it after work and on the weekends. Especially when it's raining most of my days off. That's when the house, as it sits, was covered in house wrap and put on hold until we can uncover it and get back to work.
We currently have rabbits and a month and a half old Brahma bull calf bottle baby. In the mean time I have built a Bunny Barn, garden shed and chicken coop. Chickens were always in the plans for eggs and fertilizer, just not this soon. Last week I finished checking our small garden, tending to the rabbits and was looking for something to do. I had a great idea, at least to me it was a great idea. "I'm going to build a chicken coop!!!" 4 days later we had a chicken coop but no chickens to put in it. So I started looking for laying hens or older pullets. There are none to be found in our area, at least none that we liked. As a child I was involved in raising chicks both purchased chicks and home grown chicks. So yesterday I ordered baby chicks. They should ship June 10th.
