HI! I'm new to BYC. and I don't even have chickens yet. I've had them in the past, but gave them away when racoons started getting into the henhouse while I was gone. (Went back to work.) I realize I miss them and want to try again. Ordered 2 coops and will be in search of some hens soon. And I get excited thinking of all the possibilities!!
I've put my name in the pot with a lady close by who raises French Marans, all colors. I've had Barred Rocks, Buff Orpingtons, Danish Brown Leghorns and all the 'usual suspects. So I'm looking forward to something different.

I work at Texas A&M Univ., and today this came out on campus news:

http://tamutimes.tamu.edu/2012/07/10/chickens-may-fight-cancer/

Pretty cool if chickens can contribute to fighting cancer!!

thanks for reading this far... martha ellen

Thanks for all the warm welcomes!!

We don't have kids, but.......

I should mention that we also have Longhorns, Paso Fino horses, one spoiled Weimaraner, one fierce hunter (cat) and Igor, our Blue & Gold macaw. Life is never dull.
