Hello to one and all:
My name is Cyndi and I have had chickens for about 8 years. I have a medium-sized flock of purebred silkies, cochin bantams and Old English gamebird bantams, 2 African geese, three German shepherds (two of which were rescues), and one "Heinz-57" shelter girl we call "Miss Cass". Not to mention the 5 feral cats we have given a home and 2 turtles.
We moved to the home we are in now about 4 years ago moving from an urban to a rural setting of 2 1/2 acres & bringing all our animals with us like a reverse of the Beverly Hillbillies. (I'm definitely an Ellie Mae & always have been.)

As a child my paternal grandmother talked with such fondness about her hens & biddies that I always knew one day I would have some to help remember her by. One day at a garden center in the city I lived in I noticed a pen in the corner of the property & when I got closer inside were the cutest little birds I'd ever seen: (cochins). I got a trio & that was the beginning of an enduring love story. My grandmother is never far from my thoughts when I'm tending the birds.
Having just lost my father to an untimely death today a week ago, I am trying to keep my mind on pleasant things - & my animals give me lots of pleasure & comfort. I look forward to learning from others who love their animal companions as much as I do.

P.S. How awful that I didn't first mention my wonderful, handsome hubby, Tim, of almost 25 yrs. and our equally wonderful sons, Garrett & Jordan, now young adults themselves but still at home with us at least a little longer!! (None of these dudes care for poultry the way I do!) I'm a little new to this & a little bit not myself due to my father's recent unexpected death. He was the first man I ever loved.
