New Member in Nevada and first time raising chickens

Hey everyone,

New to this site and to raising chickens. The local feed and supply store was running a special in where you purchase a 10 lbs. bag of chick feed you get 5 free chicks. Went ahead and bought 5 more just in case. The problem was the seller did not know the breeds of the chicks other than the Rhode Island Reds. I've identified another breed as Barred Rocks but the other 2 breeds are unknown at this time. Out of the 10 I believe there are 3 roosters and I'm basing this on the color and size of the incoming combs. Going over to the other forum to post pics of the 2 unknowns.

Congrats on the new babies! Yes, sometimes feed stores are clueless as to what breeds or gender the chicks are.

Beware of feed stores bearing gifts - it's a great way to get rid of male chicks.

What DD wrote is true but I have had more then one dinner from
the feed stores but they also get you to buy feed every month ..
