Hi everyone, I'm Tara.
I bought some land last year, and will start to build a house and other stuff on it starting in June to turn it into a small hobby farm. Right now it's just flat, muddy, and lots of grass. I have never had chickens or other "farm animals" before, but members of my family always did when I was a kid, so I'm looking forward to joining them as a animal-chaser (I'm kidding). Still trying to figure out a good name for my farm that doesn't require a lot of explanation of a joke or spelling a weird last name if I put my family's last name on it. so far, I think i might go for "Keith & Tara's Farm" because it's me and Keith that are starting a farm. easy spelling, at least. Not as cute or funny as I was hoping for, but at least easy to figure out that it's my farm one day. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone here. I will post a picture of my property in a "before" shot, as soon as the mud dries out enough that I can my truck there without getting stuck. Oh, I forgot, my land is roughly halfway between Buffalo and Rochester NY, but I was born in NH and moved out here in 2002, mostly lived in apartments and such while saving up money & looking for and bigger than a swimming pool. The kiddie-kind of swimming pool. Not that easy around here.

Good luck Tara:)

Thanks, Connie.
I did find land, a 40-acre piece of dirt/grass with some trees along the edges. and a highway on one side and train tracks with freight trains all day on the other side. I've got the land, now I need the house, the barn, the fences, the chicken coops, the chicken run, the drainage/fish-for-supper pond, the play-yard for my cat who only THINKS he's a mighty hunter (his favorite target is grass stems), the gardens, etc. lol. It's going to take me a while to get things going. it was a farm, but the "giant pile of grain" type, so I think the last stuffed plant there was corn or such. it doesnt even had a decent driveway yet. as for the traffic/noise...cant be any worse than living next to the Buffalo airport for several years. I have earplugs. Lots.

Oh, I will get some baby bunnies soon, they were just born a few weeks ago. One of Keith's coworkers has two, and ended up with their first batch of babies to sell. my reaction to the news of the available babies..."mine!" lol. they arent old enough to leave mom yet, but in a couple of weeks I can take them home. I do have one cat, who thinks he rules the house. He's looking forward to the baby bunnies...he wants more butlers to wait on him hand and foot and foot and foot...he's not mean around other animals, just a royal snob. "His Majesty" likes that I work from home...gives him more chances to insist that he's hungry and wants food because the stuff I gave him 5 min ago isnt fresh enough to please him.

gee, this hard...typing polite responses while people are posting more stuff for me to respond to faser than I can read/reply/shove the cat off my keyobard...again. lol still glad I found this site, even if it's hard to read things fast enough. Maybe when I get my x-ray glasses so I can see through the cat instead of around...over...under...up his butt? No, that's gross...oh, he's gone. Yeah! lol. Upside to your workspace being a computer on shelves next to your recliner? Lots of room for snacks and very comfy. Downside? a cat that likes to worm his way onto your lap all snuggly and purring, while stealthily trying to kick the keyboard off your lap so you cant use it and must worship him. I really need to hire another person to be his butler so I can get some work done. Or maybe growing a few tons of catnip might keep him busy.
Anyways, thanks for the welcome Beer Can. What brand of beer is in the can? Please dont tell me it's budwieser, I hate that one most. Sorry. any brand but that one. Most revolting drink i've tried. Uncle adores it though.
