My name is Bethany, and I have never raised chickens before. I'm intending to start a small flock of layers this spring, so I've been combing the boards for information.
I'm intending to order 15 female (hopefully!) chicks, of assorted varieties. I'd like to try Barred Rock, Black Australorp, and Easter Eggers for sure, and Buff Orps and Delaware if I can get my mother to order a few chicks too.
My family consists of myself, my husband Brian, and my children Simon (2yo) and Thea (6months). I'm hoping Simon will enjoy having the chickens around, as we don't have any other pets (allergies, grr).
Other hobbies: I love to knit, and have recently discovered Ravelry, so am sort of obsessed with knitting at the moment. I'm also hoping to plant a small garden this year, in addition to reading pretty much everything I can get my hands on.
