Hello! We are starting a little chicken family in the next month and I've been told that this is the place to get all our chicken knowledge. We have 24 acres in Nixa MO near the James River, where we built a new home a couple years ago. We're planning on 4-6 to start (momma hen and chicks, maybe?) and see how it goes. I'm going to be using the run area for our composting, which sits just beside the garden and greenhouse, and planning to use the deep litter method for the hen house. I'm sure I'll be creating threads as things come up, but any and all advice is welcome!

Welcome to the family @Htwo! I'm in Northeastern Missouri in Macon county. We are same state neighbors.

There is a thread for Missourians where you are more than welcome to join in on the conversations. Lots of members from your corner of the show me state.

Glad you could join us!

G’Day from down under Htwo :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you include your general location on your profile, this will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

BYC has a Learning Centre and also Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out. These two might be of particular interest to you at this stage:
Topic of the Week - Getting Started, Keeping Chickens
Topic of the Week - Keeping the Flock Safe from Predators

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Best wishes and good luck!

Thank you all for the warm welcome! I'm really looking forward to fitting in and making new friends. Hoping to start some conversation soon about my design ideas and garden/chicken run/coop layout, I really want to get it right the first time as I'm investing a lot in getting the area set up and my husband is on board for now... :love
