New member in Texas!

Hey y’all! My name is Pinky (yes really, it’s my legal name!). I’m new to BYC but not to chicken ownership, but still have tons to learn and navigate. I’m excited to be here and have such amazing resources and kind people. :)

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I first hatched and raised chickens in middle school for my mom’s kindergarten classroom. I thoroughly enjoyed raising them, and determined to have them as an adult! In college I kept 4 in my townhouse, and eventually moved them to a farm when I went to grad school. Now, I have my own acreage and property, and finally started building the flock I wanted!

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
As of now, I have 18.

(3) What breeds do you have?
10 Easter Egger hens. 3 silkie hens. 3 barred rock hens. 1 silkie rooster. 1 game fowl?/Easter egger? rooster. Everyone gets along great!

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Watching them grow and develop their individual personalities. The joy of their first eggs. Watching the roosters find their voices and place in the flock.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I love almost anything diesel automotive, and am a scientist by education. I love to learn, and love to go to Baja Mexico to work in the pits for trophy truck teams. I’m a BIG houseplant enthusiast, with over 200 in my collection.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I work in diesel automotive, but used to run a bioorganic chemistry lab.
I have 2 horses and 1 donkey (Monte the singing donkey, if you’ve heard of him!) and 3 dogs!

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I was invited by a very dear friend who is one of my most favorite people! I stay fairly busy with diesel forums, and didn’t even think to look for a great chicken forum!
Wow chem lab to diesel automotive! So glad you finally got your flock.
