Hello All!

Just joined the gang here at BackYard Chickens! We actually got our first 5 chicks several weeks ago and are getting ready to make the BIG move to the coop in a week or 2. We have 2 Plymouth Barred Rocks, 1 Easter Egger, 1 White-Crested Black Polish and 1 Silver Polish. It's been quite an experience raising these chicks, but we've loved watch them grow!
I look forward to getting (and maybe one day, giving) advice from all you experience chicken lovers!

Welcome to BYC!

Congrats on your new flock! Heading out to the coop is a big day, not only for the birds, but for you as well. I find I get the "empty nest" syndrome for a few days after taking chicks out to the coop. LOL

You might want to lock them in for a couple days so they know where home is and will readily go back into the coop to roost and such. If you don't, they will be unsure where home is and it will be harder to get them to use the coop.

Good luck with your new babies and welcome to our flock!

Welcome ! You will love watching your flock free range, even if it's just in your backyard! It's so very relaxing. I never get tired of seeing it. And when my rooster crowed for the first time, well he may have well said "good morning mamma". Yeah I know what this sounds like, but this is my new reality and I wouldn't change it for the world! :welcome
