Hello all! I'm a first time chicken keeper. I have 9 babies around 5 days old- 1 Speckled Sussex, 4 Black Copper Marans and 4 Easter Eggers. I recently left my job to stay home with my kids and decided they weren't keeping me busy enough so figured I should find something else to do with my time 
I had ordered 3 Sussex and 2 Rhode Island Reds from a hatchery, but unfortunately the RIRs were DOA and 2 of the Sussex passed within a few hours. I was left with 1 spunky little chick so after an emotionally exhausting day I went on Craigslist to look for some friends for my lonesome little chick and found 2 recent postings for chicks that were the same age. I sent messages to both and heard back from both and that's the story of how I ended up with my flock. This site has been immensely helpful to me already and I'm looking forward to learning so much more!
