I believe that I am not alone in noticing an increasing number of zombie threads being “resurrected” recently. As a regular greeter, I do not always look at the date of the OP’s thread, but I do find it helpful when other members mention that a new post has occurred on a thread started a significant period of time ago.

I wonder if it would be considered appropriate to automatically lock a New Members thread after a set period of time - e.g. 1 or 2 weeks? It would be helpful to those of us that greet on a regular basis.

Great idea, I agree! I do quite a few new member greetings and it's frustrating to spend time on intros for members that joined months (or even years) ago.
Thanks and indeed - spending time on intros from a while ago is a waste of time and at this time of year, facing 30 or so new members a day requires significant time in its own right.

I have gotten into the habit of checking their profile page to see when they have joined, simply because I feel stupid welcoming someone who has been here since before I joined.

I try to but some still slip by me.

What's funny is when someone calls "Zombie" and other greeters just continue to say hello anyway.

I agree, and that's because they aren't actually reading it. Maybe they are doing it just to get their posting number up? I have learned to check that the newbie welcome thread was just posted for that day.
