Or, as in your case, can the OP request it be unlocked? I think no matter the forum a thread gets put in, the newbies could resurrect it when they find it in a forum search.

That's a good suggestion too, though as an OP, I wouldn't want to wait on getting a staff member to unlock it, plus I would hate to see the staff members burdened with another task.

Most of the welcome committee realizes that a thread is Zombie. Some don't read, that's obvious. But with Mr. Porky's () suggestion, the newbies who haven't quite figured out all the ins and outs of the site wouldn't be able to resurrect it in the first place.

This I think is part of the problem. Some people don't bother reading the Op intro and just post the same stuff each time. Not sure it matters much.

Not really sure. It's kind of like a time capsule and it's a good way to reconnect with some people.

Good points! I have noticed more zombie threads recently too. Happens in other sections too but in some cases it appears to be due to the ‘resurrecting ‘ poster having searched for a topic. Sometimes still valid questions.
However in the new member intro section it is not great to have them pop up.... I try to read every post I like but there’s a chance I slip when I’m under caffeinated Some of the regular greeters go to great lengths and one can tell that they read the posts and individualize their greetings and responses as needed. I really appreciate the thought and time they put in, the support they offer for new members!! I don’t know much about computers (as some used to say - I know how to spell PC and don’t use the disc holder as a coffee cup holder) but if there is a way to change maybe title color or background for intro posts after 30 days (or any time selected) or maybe *the title??? That would avoid locking a post

Good thinking! There is an option to add a prefix to the title of the thread thread, though I think that would require a manual edit of each thread, or maybe someone could figure out how to automate it.

I agree, and that's because they aren't actually reading it. Maybe they are doing it just to get their posting number up? I have learned to check that the newbie welcome thread was just posted for that day.

Or to get their greeter badge?

I make my welcomes simple on purpose, because you get the greeter badge for unique, detailed welcomes. I don't want to take over the original greeters' jobs!

Thank you everyone for the feedback. I think the best option for everyone would be to use the report button for any possible “zombie” threads please. Staff can then take a look and take any appropriate action that maybe required.

I try to but some still slip by me.

What's funny is when someone calls "Zombie" and other greeters just continue to say hello anyway.

This shows that people don't read.
