Lol Fences work? Mine are great at flying they even get on the roof of the house when it strikes their fancy.

Ugh! No, they don't work as well as I wish they did. I have three or four that basically come and go as they please (at least they get back in on their own). Then there are a couple more that seem to get out a couple of times a week, and we have to go catch them and put them back in. The ones that get out do seem to stick a little closer to home, I think, when most of the flock is still in the fence.

Plip, that is a great idea and would work very well the way our garden is set up! Is there anything they might over-indulge on that could make them sick? We have a plum tree and the neighbors have a cherry tree which hangs over into our yard. We end up with lots of fruit on the ground. Should these be off limits to them? Thanks!

I agree with Allen about the chickens knowing what they can and can't eat. At least, I haven't worried about it with the garden and haven't had any issues.

I have a plum and cherry trees out in the orchard. The chickens don't have access to it most of the time. But I do let them out to free range sometimes, especially in the summer, and there have been times they've parked themselves under the plum tree especially and enjoyed the fallen fruit. It didn't seem to hurt them.

How lucky to find a used coop that is that big!

Welcome to backyard chickens
