Hello!
We started with 6 baby chicks last March. The house we bought already had a coop, so we went for it! We purchased RIRs. One ended up being a Roo, which is fine because we live outside city limits.
This year we decided to add a few more to our flock. The chickens have been great for our son (he is the only one who can pick RooRoo up), and we were thinking 4H might be a possibility. What started out as 4 baby chicks has turned into 17 (it was 18, but one didn't survive). We have a mix of breeds. From what I can recall we have: 2 Columbian Wyandottes, 1 Delaware, 1 Barnevelder, 1 Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, 1 Salmon Favorelles, 2 Buff Cochins, 3 Ameraucana, 1 Black Australorpe, 1 Giant Cochin, 2 silkies and 2 I can't recall.
They range in age from 3 to 4 weeks old.
We expanded our coop to hold all the new ones. This next weekend we will be fencing in a large portion of the yard so they can free range all day, but still stay in the yard.
We are nervous about the introductions to the big Hens and Roo. So I will probably ask questions when we start that process.
I'm excited to be here!
