Hello all, from northeast South Dakota!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? . .. Had some RI reds as a kid, growing up on a farm.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? None. We've planned to get chickens for a long time, but haven't carried thru.
(3) What breeds do you have? Plan for RI reds, buff orpingtons, barred rocks, tentatively. My son likes the idea of a banty rooster, which might be interesting...
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? Eggs, sustainability, responsibility for kids, etc
(5) What are some of your other hobbies ......home brewing beer, fishing, hunting, fixing stuff, etc.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. Wife and 4 kids ages 12 to 19. Have a great Pyrenees who we plan to be guardian of the brood. We live on about 5 acres in the country
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community. I found you guys years ago, and then looked you up anytime the chicken bug bit, but now have decided to get serious about chickens.... Building a coop, getting started. You guys have a lot of wisdom, and we're going to need it,
