Hi yall! I got 4 chicks in the spring. Barred Rock hens....ive never had Rocks before and they are soooooo sweet! They always come running when i call them.
We are not carpenters ,but we built our first chicken coop just for these girls! we like to let them Free range around the yard. We only have three now because a fox got into the yard and took one of them. They have no names but i can tell them apart. The hen that the fox took was my favorite and she had a name... therefore maybe its best if I leave them nameless and just call them all Chick.
i joined Backyard because i always find myself with questions and there is a wealth of information here.
Im not sure what is happening to ones comb, its possible she is low in the pecking order. I would like to find some photos of other chicks who have been pecked to see if this may be the problem. Is it best to have hens in even numbers?
