New member here. Heard about BYC from my aunt years ago. She died last year and I'm inheriting her coop from my uncle.
I've wanted chickens for years but HOA was a no go! So, after nearly twenty years.... We are moving! Our realtor had to check if any house/property we looked at had chicken restrictions, lol!!! We are moving for other reasons too, but, if you're are going to move, might as well get what you want, if you can. Approximately three weeks to chicks and I'm so excited.

None yet, we move 3/31. I think I want barred rocks. (Dual purpose, good layers, supposed to be heat tolerant ...Texas... Would like a couple of other breeds too. The laced wyandotte are beautiful, but the rhode island reds seem to be happy birds of that makes sense. )

I have noticed Rhode Island Reds, while not mean, aren’t exactly friendly. But if your mostly getting them for laying, they lay a lot of eggs.

Barred rocks are great! Sadly, our one died a year ago, but she was the sweetest of our flock.

I live over here in the Arizona desert, so I know how important heat tolerant chickens are.
