Hi all, so a quick intro.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I'm new to chickens. I've always loved the idea of raising them and dreamt of having my own farm. Started in childhood spending time on and stopping over at farms and did my work experience on a farm. When the pandemic forced us all into our homes it made me reassess hobbies and projects at home. Discovered that raising backyard chickens wasnt an alien concept and a few days later id roped the hubby into agreeing to it, bought a: large enclosure, a brinsea, hen house, brooders, runs, separate quail runs etc

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Ive hatched 3 so far, 13 in incubation, 12 more coming to go in next

(3) What breeds do you have?

so far 1 male cream legbar, 1 that is supposed to be a legbar but either is ambiguous or is hybrid, a yellow mystery. Have 8 gold partridge brahmas and 5 legbars incubating (on day 14). Have a mix of eggs 12 coming next which are marcana, Mars bars, F1 olive eggers, french copper marans and hopefully a couple F2 olive eggars (she was paired with a frizzle splash jersey giant so chicks should be interesting.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

I guess all of it, love the animals, the idea of raising my own poultry and eggs, becoming a homestead, the dedication to raising happy healthy well cared for birds, seeing them free range, socialising them and bonding, even looking forward to that early morning crow that will bring back fond memories. so many positives for me
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Between full time work (from home) and raising children, id dropped the hobbies of my youth (art & music) but decided its time to pick something back up that was for me again...and its something the whole family can enjoy and benefit from. I still get to read occasionally but a 1 year old makes that difficult especially as we made the mistake of letting him co-sleep. Now we cant get the buggar to sleep in his cot. rod/back i know!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I have a husband (together 15 years) and 3 boys (12, 8, 1). We have a bengal cross cat who is too laid back for his own good and is an utter tart. I'm an IT Project Manager, mostly around software development/migration and digital integration atm.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?

I had questions, google search brought me to your forum. repeated visits and hours of forum diving had me deciding to join

Thank you, im glad i did too. Was about time really, I've been stalking various threads for about 6 weeks now and figured it was a place for me. Also, Hi 👋

Great into and good for you doing something for you again! I like all everything you said in your response to No. 4.

Welcome to BYC, and best wishes in your new endeavors!
Thank you, its easy to lose yourself sometimes where family is concerned and hobbies fall by the wayside...it was actually my selling point to the other half as he still gets to enjoy his hobbies. Although admittedly id promised id only have 6 maximum and now hes resign to the fact it'll be in excess of 30 not counting the quail i have coming (he doesnt know about those yet 🙈🙊)
