Hi!
I'm a new chicken mom having impulsively and spontaneously adopted 3 RI Reds approx 11 weeks ago who were 5 weeks old at that time. I've been doing a lot of internet searches for info and I'm often directed back here so figured I would join the group.

I recently retired and have become unhappy with retail food quality, the prices and availability. I'm sick of "supply chain issues" and hope to be able to plan a meal from my coop and garden to my table without involving any foreign or domestic governments. I'm old enough to remember "government cheese" being rationed and refuse to stand in that line!

I'm just loving my 3 chickens. The twins are Winner & Winner & the fat one is Dinner. Soon they will give me eggs, right now they bring me joy.

Thanks, Linda Lou, for reminding me of that awful government cheese. It was so bad that my grandparents -- who didn't waste anything -- refused to eat it. They gave it to my folks instead. Yeah, it was terrible.

I got my first four hens for the eggs; I now have many more chickens and enjoy them for their entertainment value as much as their production.
