(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Our first chicken, Pot Pie, found us May 2018. We assume when a neighbor up the street moved she was left behind. We fed her in our yard and she slept in our open garage. We were worried about her living outside over winter and fortunately she followed my husband into our house October 2018 and she became our house chicken. She slept in a large cage at night and when we were at work. Had the run of our house with pants when we were home. Also every opportunity she was outside in a pop-up 6 foot x 4 foot mesh covered pen I moved all over the yard. We were heartbroken by her passing January 2022, we assume of natural causes as she was an adult when she found us and stopped laying eggs about a year before her passing.

Light Brahma Sugar and a Black Cochin Honey

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? Our house chickens along with our 3 small dogs are our babies.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Crafts, and spending every moment possible outside maintaining and enjoying our acre.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My husband and I have been together since we were 18. I’m a recently retired secretary after working 32 years in the high school we graduated. We also have a large Koi pond. We have a stroller for the dogs and carriers for the chickens and take them on outings to drive throughs, drive in movies, pet friendly stores, looking at Christmas lights, pumpkin picking and anywhere possible.

You can also tell by my name I have had a crush on Paul Michael Glaser since I was 10 years old. I celebrate his birthday every year with cookies and decorating with my collection of PMG stuff. The celebration had been a highlight every year at work.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC.

I googled Chicken forum. I learn the most from forums and enjoy lurking immensely.
