(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I’m fairly new! I’ve had a flock for over a year.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have 7 chickens and two ducks.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I have three barred rock, one blue Easter egger, one barnyard mix, one bantam Cochin rooster, and one bantam Cochin hen.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I find it incredibly rewarding and incredibly peaceful. I love the entire caretaking process and watching them thrive and flourish as I do my other (furry) pets. I’m often sitting with them and giving them the best possible life. I also enjoy being able to provide eggs to my friends and family.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I’m a writer, so I love to read. I also love to garden (both flower and vegetable and herb).
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have three dogs, who are my entire world. Fun fact: all of my chickens are named after fairy tale characters!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
I have known about this awesome site since I first got my flock! I finally joined because I need some new perspectives on my methods and chicken care.
