Hi there, I'm Noah from southwestern ontario, north of london Ontario. I have 6 dorkings hens almost a year old; three small black Cochins one is a roo; two white silkies one is a roo.
We are going to get a few more but are unsure what to add to our flock. We would like good layers

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Here are a couple of chicken breed charts that compare a lot of popular breeds http://www.albc-usa.org/documents/chickenbreedcomparison.pdf and http://www.sagehenfarmlodi.com/chooks/chooks.html. Also check out the BYC Breeds section for a lot of member reviews on the breeds when you have narrowed them down. https://www.backyardchickens.com/products/category/chicken-breeds
So far as breeds go, for egg numbers alone, commercial White Leghorns for white eggs (iffy in cold weather) and the Red Sex Links (Golden Comet, Red Stars, ISA Browns etc) for brown eggs are probably the most popular layer. If you want breeds that don't lay quite as well but will lay for a longer time, Australorps, Orpingtons (lots of people really like these, great pets), Plymouth Rocks, Sussex, Delaware and Wyandottes are some other popular breeds that are usually pretty easy to get along with, they all lay different shades of brown eggs. The Easter Egger, often sold as Ameraucana by hatcheries, are a fun breed because they usually lay green/blue eggs that kids like, and they tend to be very nice birds, and then there are the Welsummer and Marans for dark brown eggs.
You might want to check the Canada thread for what breeds people in your area have that they are happy with in your winters https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/144/canadians-check-in-here

If you want more information about breeds before selecting your next birds, check out the info under the "Breeds" button at the top of the page. There's a lot of good information about all kinds of birds here. Welcome to BYC!

Welcome to BYC!

You have a wonderful flock of birds!! Yes, lots of great breeds out there. I am fond of the Orpington breeds as they are not only a very docile friendly breed, but they are also excellent layers as well. Kelsie has left you with some really great links to follow. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Welcome to our flock and good luck with all your new adventures!
