Hi all. Just moved from urban location in Texas to rural South Carolina about 40 miles north of Savanah, GA. I've always admired Delaware chickens and now that I have about 3 acres of clear land, I've decided to get some. Maybe some Jersey Giants too. Looking forward to getting info and assistance as I venture into a new area of interest.

So glad you could join our community! Have you stopped by our learning center yet? Lots of good articles on all the aspects of keeping poultry...https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Make yourself at home here and if you have any questions about anything, feel free to ask! Welcome to our flock!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. My wife and I were both raised in Texas, and at one time or another over the years we've had both Delawares and Black Jersey Giants. Delawares are very good layers of large, brown eggs, and our Jersey Giants were truly gentle giants; not quite as good a lay rate as the Delawares, but more meat on the mature birds. Both breeds are very cold hardy. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting your Delawares and Jersey Giants.

Hi, I live in Concord, CA but I was raised in SC. I am raising 2 Buff Orpingtons in my backyard. I just found out that my next door neighbor has chickens, too. I thought it may not be legal, however, my neighbor said that it is ok with our HOA. Good luck with your chickens. This is only my second post.
