Hi there! I have just joined the BYC community and wanted to introduce myself.
I had chickens growing up and have always looked forward to having my own little flock. I finally was able to bring home 9 chicks last month and am thrilled to add these little ones to our homestead. I purchased pullets but it looks like we may have at least 1 rooster. For breeds, I chose (2) Barred Rocks, (2) Ameraucanas, (2) Silver Laced Wyandottes, (2) Welsummers, and (1) Speckled Sussex. The one that I suspect is a rooster is a Welsummer so he should turn out to be a real beauty. As long as he is not too aggressive, I will happily let him stay in the family.
I live in Oregon and this Spring has been SO wet. The chicks are in the guest bedroom brooder set-up still and the coop project is still ongoing. I guess I broke the first rule of getting the coop done first so we'll see how the next few weeks go!
Looking forward to getting to know you all on here!
