Thank you for the condolences. Death is as much a part of life as birth and it comes to us all. He was a very sweet rooster and an excellent protector/provider to the girls. He had a long (almost 11 years), healthy life and produced some wonderful chicks. I miss him but I'm not sad, just glad he was with us for as long as he was.

You are very welcome here birdlady11. To have had a rooster almost 11, and two hens nearly 14 years old/ speaks volumes on the great care you give your flock. Hope you will enjoy BYC as much as we do.

Thank you for your welcoming words. Right now I think the girls are enjoying the rooster break - they're definitely sleeping later in the morning instead of the predawn wake up calls Big Daddy was famous for. I think we'll wait until one of my best moms decides to get broody, get some fertile eggs from one of my chicken friends, and see what we come up with. Until then the girls are on vacation!

Thank you for your kind words. I will be the first to admit that I am not tech savvy (I don't have a cell phone, just my good old land line) so I really have no idea how to check out the state thread. Guess it's to contact BYC help people to get some guidance to that thread. Thanks for letting me know it exits.
