(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I am new to chickens and I have fallen in-love! My brother inlay gifted our kids 9 chicks in December for Christmas - I was a bit upset because we weren't prepared, and knew nothing about chickens. Now my husband calls me the "chicken farmer" , lol

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? we have 5 chickens, and I have ordered 9 chicks that will arrive late May.

(3) What breeds do you have? we have a barred rock, two rhode island reds or production reds (not too sure), an EE and the last one I am not sure what she is.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? It allows my children to be involved in caring for them, but also the fact that they are extraordinary creatures that produce eggs!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Photography, and cooking

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. We live on 6 acres and we converted an old dog pin into our chicken coop. We are not completely done, but we are getting there. We have a giant schnauzer, a chow mix dog and an old yorkie.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D I found you while searching on my chicken's ailment that she currently has on her leg in hopes to find how to help her.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
What happened to 4 of the Christmas chicks?
Well, the coop caught on fire in January 😔We only had 4 survivors, and the fifth one was gifted to us a month ago. They told us she was 5 months old and she is the sweetest thing. Our EE already started laying eggs as of last Friday, and yesterday she gifted us a second egg.
