:welcome :frow During the birds first year they will go through several molts starting with loosing their down and growing in feathers and you may not notice the molts as they may be very light molts. Egg production may not stop but can drop off a bit. Good luck with your birds and have fun...

Two of the girls are around 20 months old, while the other two are older and we don't know their actual ages (they came with our house - it's a story). Apart from the eggs, my favorite thing about chicken keeping is how much my young kids love playing with them, chasing them, feeding them, and just having fun with them. I've been a lurker on BYC for a long time but I joined because I have a question. My younger hens are due for their first adult molt but it isn't happening. Should I be concerned? They don't get supplemental light or heat and are entirely outdoor birds.

Hello from NC welcome! There are many here that could probably answer that for you. This is my first year. My flock is 40wks and apparently Australorps molt earlier than I thought. What breeds do you have? Cant wait to hear the "story". LOL
