Hello everyone! I am Erin from Northern Maine (less than 3 miles from Canada) I love Chickens and I want the whole world to love them too!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I am not new per se, I raised chickens for nine years and then life happened and I rehomed my last 4 to a wonderful family. I have moved on and am now teaching a Backyard Chicken 101 January Term Class to High School students with the goal of designing and eventually building the "Perfect" Coop.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? We will have 24 day old chicks in three to four days.
(3) What breeds do you have? For nine years I raised Light Brahmas, with a single Rhode Island Red Rooster thrown in for year 5 thru 9. We will have Dark Brahmas.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? My favorite aspect is watching Momma chickens teach their chicks about life. They are amazing Moms.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I love to run, read, and knit not in that order.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I am a teacher and the registrar at my school
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I love community, another reason why I love chickens they are such a great community. I learned about BYC while researching for my Class.
