I have had chickens for 30+ years.
* How many: We have 5 separate breed pens, approx 10 birds per pen. We raise a few purebreds and have crossed some for good production offspring. Our pullets start laying at 16 weeks and are winter hardy layers.
* Breeds: Some of what we have are including French black Maran, Rhode Island White, Golden Comets, Blue Copper Maran.
Planning to raise Barnvelder and Jubilee Orphingtons as well.
* Favorites aspects: Having fresh collected eggs. Breeding and hatching productive offspring that do as good or better then their parents. Having eggs for others to enjoy and watching chicks hatch and mature!
* Other hobbies: Raise pedigreed mini rex bunnies, AKC boxers, small goat herd (Boer cross with some Nubian), small cattle herd (SimAngus and British park), enjoy my miniature horses and just being outdoors in nature.
* Family: I have 3 boys, all who graduated school, were involved in 4h (as I was as well). We raised our own pigs for show and quality market for the freezer.
I am the rabbit and poultry leader for our 4h county.
BYC group: Anytime I search for chicken related things, this group usually has some topics that had been discussed that may help in my research.
Reason to join: I see many questions/answers that help me out. With my experiences, I've had answers that could help others and I love to educate and offer help where I can.

Welcome to BYC. We'd love to see pictures of your animals.
I'm still learning where to add all this.
But here are my boys. French Black Maran, Blue Copper Maran, and the white one is my RIWhite x Golden Comet cross.

Our 2023 born speckled heifer born from our Simmental/Angus maiden heifer x British park/Angus bull. Our Anatolian guardian loves all his babies he watches. Some of our chicks hatched this year.

Thank you for the great invitation! 💗
I definitely take plenty of pictures! 😉
I love to document and take pictures of my chicks as they grow and mature, to keep track of their progress and how they look as adults, along with quality egg layers during any season.
* ? * I like to repurpose things to use for the chickens and other animals. I just start a new thread where I can share those ideas, right? I searched and didn't see one that directly related to what I was going to share. Or do I just share my repurposed creations on my own thread?
