What a great intro. Welcome here nurse Paula. Nursing experience comes in handy here as you will have to take care of one of them sooner or later. I'm glad you joined us. Lots of help here. I bet your egg basket is pretty.Hi Everyone, Im Paula from Louisiana.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I started raising chickens about 9 months ago. I started with an easter egger coop because of all of the beautiful colored eggs that I was seeing on FB. Next thing you know, I am infatuated with silkies. I now have a triple, color separated silkie coop. Then, I decided that I needed to raise my own meat, so I started an meat bird pen. I now have a lot of chickens. Lots of hard work, especially with heat this summer here (heat index up to 120 degrees). Thankfully, it is cooler now!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I plead the 5th on that one.
(3) What breeds do you have? I have tons of breeds in my easter egger coop and silkies.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I love trying for different color eggs as a source of food and breeding my own silkies, trying to improve my stock with every breed.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I love to flower garden. I have many beds and am pretty knowledgeable about flowers. I also have started growing some vegetables and fruit of my own.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I am a nurse. I have 4 small shih tzus that think that I am their pet. I have 2 small grandchildren. I stay busy.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?I have been popping in and out when I google questions. I get a lot of information here.
