I rescued 11 hens a couple of years ago. Two have since passed. One went broody so I purchased 6 barnyard mix eggs. She hatched all and they are almost 1 now. Exciteable season this spring/summer. 3 of my "babies" went broody and the original broody did it again. I now have a lot of hens/ chicks and one rooster. 15 chicks, all barnyard mix. One broody hatched all Blondie's and one black one. She rejected the black one. I brought her in the house, healed her up and bought two little friends for her. Two of my broodies are co-parenting 4 chicks, crazy. My rooster is unhappy that his girls are in a different run. I also have a large dog. My rooster accidentally injured one of my old old hens. I took her to a vet and it wasn't fixable. So, unfortunately, she and her last flock mate, at 13 yrs old were put down. Still very sad about this! But I have a lot of new little additions now.Hello everyone, I am a new member, but not new to the site. I have wanted to raise chickens for several years. but I didn't get started till I got a house out in the county.
