Greetings everyone! I am looking forward to exploring this forum and the vast resources available. I have six black australorp hens and one rooster that just turned a year old; I purchased 18 chicks two months ago - all laying/dual purpose breeds: rhode island whites, barred rocks, buff orphingtons, silver-laced wyandottes, and amerucanas. I think I might have accidentally purchased a Brahma rooster because that chick grew the fastest only to be the biggest of all 18. I will post a picture and ask for opinions on identification. In addition, I have 19 red broilers, 4 of which i will keep for the farm, and sell the rest to friends and family who appreciate organically raised, small farm chickens. I feed my chickens feed from Hunt and Behrens in Petaluma, CA, which is not even an hour's drive away from the farm. Right now I am in the process of integrating the two-month-olds into the original flock; I put two birds into the big coop around midnight last night, and let the other roost on the ladder going into the big coop or in their old house. It is slow going, but so far everyone is being hospitable - I know I am in for some late nights ahead...
Enough rambling,
