New member introduction

I took a close look at your pic here and I am not seeing a lot of pointy feathers. Could this bird be older than 4 months of age? Really looks like a pullet to me, but wow, I have never seen such maturity like this at 4 months. If this is a pullet, she should be laying eggs!

Here is another pic. No eggs yet from any of them.

Looks like a pullet to me. Even the legs, from what I can tell are not thick like tree trunks. Take a look at the legs and compare them to the other chickens legs. If they are pretty much the same thickness, then this bird probably is a pullet. If they are really thick and meaty, this will clinch it that this bird is a cockerel. I had a hen mature up pretty quick compared to her siblings, but wow, no comb this big at 4 months! I guess anything is possible. Aussies don't start laying until about 6 months of age. This one maybe an early layer. She looks like she is ready to lay anytime!! :)

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. If your Australorp in the front is only 4 months old, it's definitely a cockerel. Please feel free to ask any other questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
