Hi! We are are first time chicken parents to 3 brown leghorn pullets, 2 white silkie pullets, & 1 white silkie cockerel. We are very excited to have found the BYC community & have been learning something new everyday.

We would love to hear from experienced owners of brown leghorns & silkies & anyone who has great advice & experience to offer. We are very interested in the benefits of flowers & herbs for our chickens & would greatly appreciate any information you have about it. We have just bought a wide variety of herbs to plant & are anxious to see the benefits they offer our chickens.

We hope to hear from you soon! Happy chicken farming!

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan

The biggest benefit fresh herbs are to birds is the opportunity to demolish them in the garden - my gardens are all fenced to keep the girls out, as they scratch, dig, roll on and eat pretty much everything I grow, weeds and all. But they sure have fun doing it!

I've heard that some things a chicken eats can affect the taste of the eggs, you may want to try them with one type of herb at a time - to see if that does happen.

Thank-you for all of your warm welcomes! We mentioned herbs in our introduction because we purchased the May/June issue of chickens magazine & it contains a greet article on the benefits of herbs to chickens for laying, brooding, stress, respiratory benefits, & pest control to name a few. We'll keep you posted on what we learn!
