G'day, and welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. Isa Browns are one of the labels that some hatcheries use in selling their Red Sex Links and they are egg laying machines. I'm a chook person and don't know much about ducks (although I've had a few), but I have to admit that ducklings are the ultimate in cute. You can get in touch with the people in our duck section at https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/42/ducks. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your chooks.

Judging by your avatar, you already have something to take care of the ----------- in your yard and I believe one way or another they will NEVER come back.

You might try some strands of electrified wire fencing. One touch and we'd probably hear the screech around the world.- Just kidding but, I think even static electricity scares them.

Thank you for all the lovely messages of welcome. As an update from my first post, the ISA Brown is now laying once a day, and one of my bantams has started laying twice a week (Which one? Who knows...). The quail eggs have disappeared, which could be due to winter (however I suspect the ISA is eating them), and one of my bantams has gone broody. I'm thinking of getting her some fertilized eggs as she looks a bit miserable... Other then that, the cats are the same pains in the arse they were and I've progressed to council provided letters in peoples mail boxes...

If your Isa Brown is eating eggs you will need to watch her, if you set eggs this could be a problem. Move your bantam to a brooder box at dark and set eggs under her, if she settles you will be OK otherwise that Isa Brown may eat the eggs.

What type of quail do you have, If they are Jap quail you can collect the eggs and set them under a very light bantam.

All the best, let us know how you go.

CHICKENS! CHICKENS! CHICKENS! OMG! So I bought some fertilized eggs from the chicken farm to set under the broody little bantam, who steadfast refused to be moved from her corner. And low and behold they re hatching right now. Right now! I have beaks coming out of eggs. I didn't really think it was going to happen. I think I'm in a bit of shock. My other white chicken has gone over and now they are both sitting on the clutch, occasionally shoving their heads under to check on the eggs. The ISA has gone to bed, and my male quail is crowing (guess I know which one is the boy now!). I will keep you updated! *Runs back downstairs*
