I would difinately change to 1/2" hardware cloth as soon as possible. Fox are sly and will attack anytime. Your roosters will help protect from predators and will fight until death.

Welcome to BYC. Hardware cloth is good; also, electric fencing is a very good predator deterrent. Good luck with your flock.

Totally understand cost effects!! I too can only free range in small area and must stand guard during it. Electric net works great for this. Good luck!!!

Until you can afford to replace with 1/2 inch hardware cloth - maybe you could double the chicken wire around the coop to slow predators down a little.
