New Member Looking for local meetup group

Hi,
I am a new member to Backyard Chickens. I have never owned chickens, but I want to purchase 6 chickens for egg production.

I reside in Houston, Texas and would like to join a local meetup group. Specifically, join a group that allows meet up and volunteer work with chickens (sort of like shadowing the chickens owner).

Can anyone direct me to a group.

Also...I highly recommend you research chicken disease before you go out and buy sick chickens off of our local Craigslist.
I have seen some nasty stuff on our CL.

Look into ordering day old chicks from Ideal Poultry.
They arrive in less than 15 hours from hatch at your local post office.
