Hey guys just joined this morning. Gave up city life and moved out to some rural property so looking to get started up with my flock. I am planning to get dual purpose hardy birds for my flock. We are in Louisiana so heat tolerance will be a bigger factor than cold tolerance. I’ve been looking heavily into Basque Hens and they have really peaked my interest. I also got onto a wait list for some Pita Pinta Asturiana pullets. I am having trouble finding any basque hen pullets besides greenfire. If anyone has any insight that would be much appreciated. I also posted on the basque hen thread. I am excited to start this new chapter.

Welcome to BYC, and congratulations on your new home!
I'm in east Texas with like climate. Be sure your chickens have plenty of space, more than the recommended ventilation, and lots of shade and dirt to dig holes. All should be fine. If you can't find the basque hens, I recommend welsummers, crested cream legbars. They both do well in heat, and are friendly.

Good for you. Congratulations on getting out of the rat race :)

A double bonus is finding this site, people here have some great ideas for their coops and share advice and the knowledge they have gained with their chickens
