Welcome to BYC! My chickens also are pretty smart! My dogs don't know enough to get out of the rain (mind you I have exceptionally stupid dogs), even though I've put a large dog door in the side of the shed and bedding in there and brought them in and out several times, but my chickens have never needed to be told to head for shelter when it rains! Smarter than domestic turkeys for sure!
