Hi, I'm Carol, and am in my "late middle age". This is my first foray into the world of raising chickens. There are 10 hens pecking about in a wire dog crate in my computer office, growing feathers, making messes on the floor and generally growing while I watch. It's already been an awesome adventure watching them go from tiny, fluffy chicks to the motley assortment that they are now. I haven't a clue exactly what kind of chickens they are, as I got "Assorted Pullets" from Tractor Supply. Getting ready to build the coop, with a heat lamp at the ceiling, a smoke plastic roof, 6 nesting boxes and a covered "yard" for them to keep them safe from the hawks that cruise around here at low altitude.

I live in semi-rural North Carolina, in a small town near the large Marine base. I have 2 Great Dane puppies, nearly 11 months old (as in tomorrow). Both of them graced us by coming into season at the same time recently, so I have Diva Dogs emoting all over the living room. When they are old enough, they will each produce a litter of puppies and then be spayed. I am SO waiting for the spaying. lol. I've had Danes for about 20 years, but this will be my first puppy raising adventure with them. I also have a very fat, very lazy cat that is sometimes a good mouser and sometimes watches the mouse and pretends she doesn't know what it is.

I'm married and we will be celebrating our second anniversary in August. We are both disabled American veterans.

I live in Volusia County, Florida, near DeLand. I recently decided to get chickens again and purchased chicks: 5 Rhode Island Reds, one Barred Rock, and 4 Aracauana--all pullets. We live on 5 acres and have a Golden Retriever and a Siberian Husky. So far the dogs have been kept away from the chicks as we are afraid od what might happen if they get together (Chick-a-Bobs?). Their outdoor run is secured with chicken wire on top and sides. We have a security cam in the chick coop so we can watch them. They are so cute.

I want to get more Aracauanas, and one or two roosters. My husband thinks I'm a little obsessive with the chicks. I don't think so, do you?

I'd like to find other Obsessive Chicken Moms in my area.
