new member, new sickly chick

ChicknGal I would start your own thread if I were you so that it gets more notice. The little sicky is definitely doing worse. I am really sad that she is the one to die the darn B.O. are way more skittish and difficult to catch than the R.I.R's they are all very sweet when I pick them up. :(
newmarch2014,is your chick showing no improvement? If no,i would treat for coccidiosis,if you cannot locate any Corid or might be called Amprol(depends where you live) then give her some buttermilk as it helps coat the intestines until corid(amprolium)can be located.

Corid is found in the cattle section and will say for cattle, but is perfectly safe for poultry including chicks and one of the best coccidiostats for treating cocci.

Hi there,
I have 2 newly hatched bantam golden lace Cochins . One of my chicks that is 4 days old today starting bobbing her head back and forth and some time walks in circles.
She is eating and drinking, very active and seems to be healthy aside for this lastest thing.
Any similar experiences out there and advice.
I can't imagine fleas or mites already as they are in the house, and I have no other animals.
Are they too young to put in some DE as a precautionary measure? Funny thing is the other chick is not experiencing this.

Thank you
Sounds like your chick might have the start of wry neck. Walking in circles is a clue. Here is a link explaining treatment, also do a search on wry neck. No they do not need DE and it will not help.

ten chicks, Thanks for the response! That is the plan for today I have to go to work till the store opens then I am headed to the feed store. She made it through the night!! She has been working away at some gruel (water in her feed) pretty steadily and is back to chirping and standing up a bit. Also the other 5 are still thriving and doing great.
