New member - no chickens yet! Soon!

Thanks for all the warm welcome! Got my chicks today and I am so excited. Would just like to share with someone who cares :). Here is my little flock: 2 Buff Orpingtons (one week); 1 Light Brahma (one week) 1 Golden Laced Wyandotte (1 week) 1 Cuckoo Maran (1 week) 1 Gold Star sexlink (2 week) 1 Barred Rock (2 week) and 1 Americana (1 week). They are sooo cute, and are doing well: drinking, pecking, scratching, peeping. So precious. DH is making the coop in the next few weeks. Thanks for all the help I've already gotten on this fun forum.
That it just great!

Welcome! I hope you're prepared to cook with lots of eggs! Sounds like there might be a lot of competition for selling eggs in your area.

Anyway, I can tell you a little about your Gold sex link (I have 10 and they are wonderful!). They lay eggs regularly even in the cold winter months, and they are very gentle and social if you work with them often from a young age. My girls come running when they see me come out each morning, and they are very good about pecking gently if they decide to peck me at all (for example, if I have shiny keys in my hand, or dirt on my bare toes that for some reason catches their interest). Sex links are called this because you can tell males from females as chicks. But, if your sex link catches some chicks, you will not be able to tell male chicks from females. It seems to only work for the first generation. Hope this helps a little!

Have fun learning about your flock!

Thanks for the posts. The Gold star ial now named Star. She is a week older than most the other chicks but is very sweet and sociable.I am looking forward to when she is grown. Chicken genetics are pretty interesting!
