New member - ordered my chicks!

Greetings & Salutations. Welcome.

You can search the Forums https://www.backyardchickens.com/forums/ for info. I just did a search for Dog Chickens and a number of posts are there concerning dogs with chickens. Read the title of the posts and read the ones that best apply to your situation.

Our Belgian Malinois has high prey drive. She dreams of catching a squirrel. We trained her, with lead, walking around the run, with the chickens and also, on lead, in the yard while the chickens were out.

The only thing she has done is to put her frisbee in front of one, then backing up...unfortunately, the chicken cannot throw it for her. 🤣
An ISA charged her and she just looked a bit surprised.

This is a wonderful site on which to Learn and enjoy. We are pleased to have you in the community.

Hi everyone- I’m a new member and may have a few questions. It’s been a while since I had chickens. My main concern is/question is how to introduce my small dog to the chicks?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome! I'm pretty new here too. I joined after ordering my very first chicks a couple of weeks ago, due to arrive in September.

Then I went to TSC to buy dog food 2 weekends ago and left with 4 bantams. 😆 I'm loving the journey so far!

Sorry, I am not much help with the dog thing. I have 2 dogs, but I don't think I'll be letting them anywhere near my birds. Hopefully some of the great folks here will have some advice!

Thank you all for the advice and suggestions! I had chickens years ago and the baby chick bug bit me very very hard! I only ordered the minimum 15 chicks and I’m afraid to go into tractor supply. If they have chicks…
I have an incubator in the barn and found myself mentally crossing a few breeds- 😂 they don’t even Hatch until the 11th and then they ship to me. I don’t dare tell hubby my thoughts!😉

I think hubby will do well as most feed stores are out of chicks.😎
...now the incubator will have to wait until the chicks to pullets are probably about 7+ months old, laying normal eggs.
