Howdy!

I'm new to raising chickens, I'll be raising hen for eggs. I've got a few acres but only trying to raise enough eggs for myself and my neighbor. I'll not trying to raise them from chicks, as I want to be able to get eggs sooner than later. I've been suggested by a farmer friend of mine to get 12-15. I do want an assortment of egg colors, because that seems fun! I'd love some suggestions of chicken to get so I can have blue/green, and brown eggs. And if I can find a local person to buy the chicken from.

Thanks!

Howdy Thirdcoast, great to have you join Backyard Chickens

G’Day from down under Thirdcoastboogie :frow Welcome!

I am pleased you have been given some good tips and links cos I live in the wrong country to offer assistance and my experience with 'egg layers' are 5 pampered bantams who spend more time broody than they actually do laying! :p

Anyways, I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
