Some "enlightened" cities are allowing their citizens to keep a few hens in the backyard. You'd better read your subdivision charter- or whatever they call it in Georgia. You'll be very sad if you are found out and must get rid of them. That's one of the drawbacks of living in a subdivision- lots of rules. On the other hand, if you know there is nothing in the charter about it (or better yet, that it's specifically allowed!) then you are armed with fighting information in case of trouble

Well I would have to be a rebel too. Id get them if thats what made me happy.
Ive been in your situation before, dont plant trees or bushes in the yard, you cant have pets, no more dogs. You know what before I moved from that place I had 3 dogs 13 goats and chickens. It made them miserable but it made me happy so I did it. Alot of people are afraid of change, alot just want to be in control, the others are just idiots and for the rest of us its pet owners.

I couldn't live somewhere if there was an "association" that TOLD ME what I can and can not do on MY property. I'm all for having what makes me happy, that's why I don't live in a subdivision.

a great website if you dont want a lot of chicks is mypetchicken.com they have a minimum of 3 which is nice. they have like a heating element and padding or something that keeps the chicks warm. its deffinetly ok to mix. i am getting a cuckoo maran chick in august, and that will complete my flock of americauna (a cool breed that lays blue/green eggs)a beautiful showgirl bantam cochin and a cukoo maran that will grow up to lay DARK DARK brown eggs.

Chickens? who has chickens? I just have exotic parrots <grin> Its always baffled me that it can be cool to have a parrot, but your strange if you have a chicken.

Everyone else has posted some good information, so I wont repeat it hehe. Just want to wish you luck. Chickens really are fun, and a great sourse of stress relief!

Good luck
Shannon
