We've browsed this site numerous times for answers and info. It is really a great resource and a great way to learn more about our fun feathered friends!

We hope to share more experiences and pictures from our flock, new and old, and also ask questions as we learn more about how to care for our sweet girls (and sweet rooster boy)

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We first started raising chickens about 3 years ago after buying our first home in a more rural area (outside the urban city) that allowed chickens and roosters. We are still learning and wanting to add more to our flock, probably 3-4 new chicks, once we finish building a bigger coop (The Palace) to accommodate them.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We started with 5 hens we raised from chicks, and then we added 2 more chicks. Sadly, we've lost a few over the last 3 years - 1 to a coyote, 1 to sour crop, 1 to round worms, and 1 to being severely egg bound (after a bout with salpingitis).

(3) What breeds do you have?
We had (5) Tetra Brown hens and (2) bantam Silkies.

Currently, we have (2) Tetra Brown hens and (1) bantam Silkie rooster.

We'd like to get a couple more chicks this spring once we get the new coop finished. I really want to get an Ayam Cemani to complement and contrast our white Silkie rooster-boy.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Their unique personalities, their intelligence and social interactions (they are much more clever than most people think), and of course the eggs they provide our family. I love how our rooster will tid-bit with me anytime I'm nearby.

My spouse operates an in-home Preschool, and the kiddos love watching the chickens free-range and forage. Our Rooster (Chocolate) has an impeccable sense of time, and crows on cue during each drop-off and pickup time for the kiddos.

The preschoolers all voted to pick names for the chicks.

Our (5) Tetra Brown hens:
1. (Juicy) Apple
2. Tree-Tree Bushy (RIP)
3. Twilight Sparkle (RIP)
4. (Buttered) Popcorn (RIP)
5. (Moldy) Cheesy

Our (2) Bantam Silkies:
6. Chocolate (our sweet Rooster boy)
7. Baby Biscuit (RIP)

Thank you for the kind welcome @Pork Pie! :highfive:

We hope to contribute, learn and share much more.

Joining today was a hasty move to help determine and diagnose a strange behavior from one of our hens that started today.

Searching Google and YouTube didn't yield any specific answers or examples as to what we're experiencing (or hearing for that matter).

Welcome to BackYard Chickens! We're happy that you decided to join us, and we hope that you enjoy your time on the site!
Good luck with your flock!
Thank you @Sapphire Sebright! We are still learning a TON (as we are likely to continue doing as long as we have chickens). They definitely keep us entertained and on our toes.

We hope to help others as we grow and learn from our experiences. I don't want to call them "mistakes" but any chicken owner knows how tough it can be to lose some of your flock family, and how sad/frustrating it is to try to hastily diagnose and treat health problems when they (inevitably) arise.
