Hello!

I have just recently gotten a coop, and now I am working on getting supplies and eventually chickens! However, I would rather buy laying hens instead of chicks. Where do ya'll get yours from? Any tips or advice?

When I buy laying hens then I go on craigslist

CL, your local B/S/T pages on FB, etc are all good places to look - you may also want to find the "your state" thread here on BYC and put out some feelers to other BYC members near you to see what they might have or who they know that has POL birds available.

Welcome to BYC!

Definitely stop by your state thread to chat with your chicken neighbors and maybe someone nearby can hook you up with some birds or know where you can get some...

You can also take a look in our Buy Sell and Trade section for possible breeders or sellers nearby you...

Have you stopped by our learning center yet? Lots of great articles on all the aspects of keeping your new flock...

Good luck finding the birds you seek and welcome to our flock!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! You've gotten some good suggestions above, good luck in your search!

Check Facebook for chicken groups and swap pages in your area. That's how I got mine. One group put together a swap at a local fire station last weekend.
Also farm stores and local Tractor Supply stores often host monthly swaps.
4-H members' families often raise and sell chicks and would have pullets available right now too. You can contact your extension office or look up leaders' info online to see if anyone has any.
Good luck! :)

Glad you joined us! You will find POL pullets for sale in the Buy~Sell~Trade section:

Also keep an eye out for local shows, meet-ups etc. When buying chickens see if you can take an experienced poultry keeper with you to look over the birds for you. Sadly some people think nothing of selling old or diseased birds. If possible, try and buy from a reputable breeder. There are some listed here:

Enjoy your chickens!
