Hi! I'm a new member here although I have been using this forum often since my chicks hatched a month ago. While I have worked with chickens in the past, I have never had my own so this is all new to me!
I have 6 chicks I hatched from a small farm's eggs in a home-made incubator. They are all mixed breed; half Rhode Island Red from their dad, but we aren't sure which hens were the moms. It's been very exciting seeing them grow and trying to guess.
We are currently building a new coop in out backyard with an enclosed run. However, I am concerned with the heat since Texas is often in the 100s during the summer. I decided to make a membership in the forum since I need help deciding the best way to keep the hen house cool. How much ventilation should a house have and should I install a solar powered fan to run? (I'll probably post my query elsewhere just in case.)
