Hi everyone,
I'm new on here, but I visit the website frequently if I need any questions answered. I have two mallard ducks who are a year old. A male and a female. I've noticed that my girl (Ellie) stomach makes a grinding noise. I don't know if it's her insides producing an egg, or if it's her stomach gurgling because she is hungry. She has lost weight since she started laying, and I'm having a heck of a time fattening her up. She eats and drinks normally, so I can't see that it the noises would be from her being hungry. So the only thing I can think is that the noises are her body making an egg. Does anyone else notice any noises coming from their layers? As far as trying to get her to put on weight, I gave her some cracked corn, and grower feed,(not medicated) thinking that the extra protein would help bulk her up. Nothing has seemed to work. My boy (Adrienne) isn't getting any fatter either, but he's not as skinny as her. I put electrolytes in their water daily so they're getting vitamins. This is my first time with ducks, and I don't really know what I'm doing, I just know that I love them dearly. If anyone can help, or give me some advice, I would really appreciate it!
Thanks a bunch!
